Description: The Starfish Cluster, also known as M38 or NGC1912, is a beautiful open cluster in the constellation Auriga. It lies at a distance of approximately 4,200 light years from Earth. Also visible in this image is another, smaller open cluster, NGC1907. It contains approximately 30 member stars and is at a distance of approximately 4,100 light years from Earth.
Imaging Camera: Canon EOS 60D
Imaging Scope/Lens: Orion Astrograph 8" f/3.9 Newtonian
Mount/Tripod: Celestron CGEM
Guide Scope/Camera: Orion Shorttube 80mm w/ Starshoot Autoguider
Exposure Details: Camera settings were ISO 1600 with 50-second exposures. This image is a composite of 40 light frames and 15 dark frames.
