About Us

What is CVA?

The Central Valley Astronomers is a group of astronomy enthusiasts drawn together by a common set of goals and interests. We are located in Fresno area of California Central Valley.

Our Goals:

  • Provide a place for those interested in astronomy to come together to enjoy and share their hobby.
  • Share the wonders of astronomy with the public.
  • Be a local source of astronomy education and information for our schools, the public, and the media.

Our Interests:

  • To learn more about astronomy and related subjects.
  • To enjoy the night sky with naked eye, binoculars, and telescopes.
  • To learn from others and to share what we know about astronomy with others.

What do we do?

Monthly Meetings: Meetings are held around the full moon of each month. Each meeting has an educational program. Please see the calendar page for dates and times.

Star Parties: Monthly “Star Parties” are on the Saturday closest to New Moon. This is when the club goes out to a dark site and has a night of telescope and binocular observing. We observe at Hensley Lake in Madera County. Please see the map page for directions on how to get to Hensley Lake.

Newsletter: Our monthly publication, The Observer, contains articles that share the knowledge and experiences of club members. Subjects covered include deep sky observing, planetary astronomy, space exploration, and much more! Everyone is welcome to contribute.
